Why an Electric Car Blog?

This is the beginning of my electric car blog focusing on the topic of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in rural Australia. I live in rural Western Australia about 2 hours north of our capital city Perth. Electric cars have interested me for a few years now, I have always been interested in new technologies and EVs were no exception, capturing my interest. I have a passion for Australian made anything, cars and tech, I followed the V8 Supercars for years and am a Holden man! You cant be an Aussie without picking a side right? Holden or Ford? I remember when the V8 Supercars changed their name to “Supercars” I was very disappointed as I thought the end of the V8 was near, this upset me and my friends because this is what we grew up with and how could you beat that sound? – more on that in another blog!

My first car was a 2000 VT Holden Commodore at the time a strong, safe car, it may not have had the 5 star safety rating today, but I can vouch for its safety as the dear old VT sacrificed itself in a car accident I had 9 years ago. It was a high speed accident on a rural road involving another car. I walked away (just) with a broken ankle and a few minor grazes. The VT did its thing and was written off in doing so. This lead me to get another commodore being increasingly loyal to the Australian car. I purchased a 2005 VZ Commodore of which I still drive today with just shy of 302,000km on the clock after 9 years of rural driving. The car does not owe me anything but with a bit of TLC (or alot!) I am hoping it will get me by until I can get myself an EV!

A big reason for me starting this blog is because of the misinformation and misconception out there about EVs. Being from a rural area in Western Australia I come across this alot. So giving information direct from owners or my own first hand experiences is an aim of mine for this blog. Also keen for input on topics to cover or questions you may want answers for, I will do my best to answer or find the answer for you. I have ideas already for upcoming blogs and as you may have seen in the photo i got to experience a Tesla Model 3 for a weekend and took it for a road trip in rural WA.

Quote of the day;

“When Henry Ford made cheap, reliable cars, people said, ‘Nah, what’s wrong with a horse?’ That was a huge bet he made, and it worked.”

Until the next blog! Stay safe!
