2021 Tesla Model 3 – What updates are confirmed?

There is alot of info flying around the interwebs and here I bring that together with a list of improvements that are not all officially announced by Tesla.

Update 1: Heat Pump Air-conditioner and octovalve system CONFIRMED!

This first debut for Tesla in the Model Y released earlier this year (2020). This system more efficiently heats and cools the cabin and battery, meaning less power drain on the battery and increased range.

Update 2: Double laminated glass front windows CONFIRMED!

This is predominantly for dampening road/wind noise and may have very minor heat insulation improvements though they are only on the drivers and front passengers windows so would be minimal at best.

Update 3: New centre console and interior accents CONFIRMED!

No more glossy piano black materials in the car, it is all now a dark grey matt finish, centre console, door opener buttons & window switches are all matt. The door buttons now have an illuminated symbol for opening the door to help provide to comers to the car an indication of how the doors are opened from inside the car.

The centre console is also functionally different, removing the door over your phone charging pad, leaving it open and covering the pad in alcantara fabric, adding vegan leather down the sides of the console and a new sliding centre storage area in between the phone and cup holders. Inside the storage areas the configuration of the USB ports and locations have changed, the charging pad is seperately powered therefore 2 newly located USB-C ports now sit inside the centre storage area just infront of the cup holders. Inside the centre console armrest storage you will find a 12v outlet. Below the rear air vents there are 2 USB-C ports. Plenty of ports to go around now!

The data USB-A port for Sentry mode and dash cam, is now located inside the glove box, which is now lockable with a pin on the centre screen. The car also comes with a formatted 64gb Tesla branded USB stick ready to go.

New magnetic sun visor holders are also included now replacing the clip, another addition from the Model Y.

Update 4: Power Boot/lift-gate CONFIRMED!

The Model 3 can now lift the boot with an electronic lifter. It lifts smoothly and quietly at the press of a button, at the boot, centre screen or on your phone key. Whilst we are in the boot there is a slight change to the rubber seals on the lower section of the rear window where it meets the boot and gutter. The seal forms a preliminary channel to stop water flowing directly off the glass into the boot. New drainage holes in the seal slowly allow water to drip into the main drainage gutter and out of the vehicle further reducing issues from previous versions.

Update 5: Exterior black steel accents replace chrome CONFIRMED!

All external chrome is now a matte black steel finish, window trims, mirror trim, door handles and side repeaters/indicators. Also in the door frame the Model 3 sill plate is no longer chrome.

Update 6: Froot redesign CONFIRMED!

New shape which is said to accommodate the addition of the heat pump. No hooks or provision for one, the light and emergency froot release button from the inside of the froot is now recessed so your bottle of milk wedged against your cans of tomato’s will not accidently press the button when you put the anchors on!

Update 7: The photochromatic mirrors (auto dimming) are back NOT 100% SURE!

From what I can tell they are back but I have not seen conclusive evidence of them, please leave a comment below with the link to it if you can confirm they are back!

Update 8: New steering wheel CONFIRMED!

New vegan leather wrap design on the steering wheel, it appears to be 1 piece instead of 2. Also new metal scrollers on the wheel. The same metal is now surrounding the seat adjustment buttons for a nicer touch. The steering wheel is supposedly heated too but again I cannot see conclusive evidence of that.

Update 9: New range of wheels CONFIRMED!

The SR+ has flatter 18inch aero wheel covers and are slightly darker. The Long Range now has Silver 19inch alloy wheels with a squarer shape and potentially more aerodynamic. The Performance now has the 20inch Black Uberturbine wheels for the Model Y and are like the pre production Model 3 wheels. I have not seen conclusive evidence that the previous alloy rims are underneath the new aero caps.

Update 10: Lower price CONFIRMED!

Prices have dropped across the range around $10k.

In WA drive away prices for the Model 3 SR+ starts at $73,811.

The Long Range starts at $91,658.

The Performance starts at $104,118.
